My part

I became involved at screenplay stage, marking up likely VFX requirements and working with the production VFX team on early assumptions around environments, crowds, face replacement and photography. As scouting and the production plan evolved, we refined those assumptions around what could be achieved practically and what would need visual effects. I also helped arrange local on-set VFX support and reviewed dailies before handing day-to-day work to the production team.

Why it mattered

The process moved from identifying everything that might be required to determining what the film actually needed. That allowed the approach, schedule and budget to develop together as the filmmakers made decisions about the film.
